When: from Tuesday, 30 September 2008 until Tuesday, 28 October 2008

All of these artists are Academy-trained and bring the street influence into their studio produced artworks.

There will also be a continual screening of Bukta Ildikó’s documentary about the Hungarian street art scene, as well as photography and animation by Degrell Kata. Chief curator of the show is art historian Vekony Delia, assisted by artist Novák Zoltán.
‘From Street to Studio: the Keith Haring Legacy in Hungary’ coincides with a major Keith Haring exhibition showing at the Ludwig Museum this fall. In the 1980s Keith Haring was a famous New York graffiti artist whose distinctive line drawings brought him international fame and success.

The words “Big Apple” often conjure up an image of tourists in hats gawking at skyscrapers in the middle of Manhattan. But a new class of visitors — known as graffiti tourists — are now visiting New York City.
A Dutch native was the first to be labeled a graffiti tourist in Queens after allegedly spray painting a No. 7 subway car at Roosevelt Avenue and Willets Point Boulevard in Flushing last week.

Piecebook: The Secret Drawings of Graffiti Writers

This is wassup!
October 2 07:00PM - 08:30PM
Piecebook is an inside look at graffiti writers’ black books, which they use to share ideas and sketch out tags before putting them up on walls. Piecebook chronicles the evolution of graffiti via images that weren’t intended for everyday people to see, focusing on the works of NYC writers active from the 1970s until the mid-1980s. Bold works from graffiti history’s most important artists, including Zephyr, Dondi, Daze, CRASH, Lady Pink, T-Kid, CAP and Ghost, represent a dizzying array of techniques and styles. Jenkins was the founder of seminal hip-hop magazine ego trip and was the long-time editorial director of Mass Appeal magazine. Villorente was a notorious tagger and the editor of Source magazine’s graffiti pages. They’ll discuss their new book with the Strand audience.
